Why Study Public Relations?
Some studies have suggested that up to 80% of news stories have a PR source. Every time you see a politician out shaking hands or your favourite celebrity signing autographs, it's all in the name of PR. Each new product, book, or game that is released will have a PR campaign behind it, and you could be a part of that!
Why Westminster University?
Westminster University has one of the UKs top PR courses, offering a mix of practical and written assignments. The course attracts key industry professionals as guest lecturers and initiates industry debates the most recent of which included publicists Max Clifford and Mark Borkowski.
Where will I be studying?
The course is based in Harrow, (ok so it's not the centre of the universe!), but all the buzz of central London is just 20mins down the met line. It's not as far out as you think and the night bus is a saviour if you miss the last tube.
Harrow on the Hill is a much nicer area, with Harrow boys school at it's centre and some lovely parks and pubs ;)
What will I do on the course?
You will learn to create and analyse PR campaigns. You will learn how to write press releases, and will have the opportunity to run your own mock press conferences. You will write book reviews, present seminar papers, and yes....lots of essays.
You also get to take part in role playing and class discussions! The most important thing you will learn though is that you must always be up to date with current affairs and the news! Newspaper reading is essential, but can be done from the park on a sunny day :)
Who studies PR?
Well of course anyone can! But it helps to be confident and you have to be willing to work hard. PR is not the best paid job in the world, but if you want it can be one of the most fun and definitely the most varied career option available to you.
PR is a creative and fast moving industry that allows you to meet lots of new people form all over the world. Indeed the course has a fab mix of people from all across the world, you will learn as much from them as any lecturer and make some great friends along the way too!
