Where to Start???

Where indeed?!?

Well let's face it. PR is a massive, fast moving industry covering a huge variety of areas, so there is no way this blog is going to cover all of them!
But what it will aim to do is pass comment on the bits that catch Perrys eye. The delights and disasters that pop up in the news and anything else that takes the fancy on the way.

Seeing as the number one story at the moment is the election it seems likely that this will take centre stage in these posts! But this is only one point of view on these issues!
Please feel free to comment/ question anything on here you wish!

  1. Have you got any opinions on the politician's idea to lower the voting age to 16?

Personally I don't think it's a very good idea, I know that I took little interest in politics at that age, but maybe that's because i consciously knew that i couldn't vote and therefore didn't try to make an effort with politics...

  2. I would agree that it's a bad idea. In the 2005 election only 37% of people in the 18-24 age range actually voted, the lowest figure for any age range. By lowering the voting age, my fear would be that you would only be increasing the number of people eligible to vote who don't.

However I think a wider issue is getting all young people interested in politics. I was at 16 and would have loved the opportunity to vote, but the vast majority of my friends wouldn't have taken the opportunity and you need an understanding of politics to make an informed decision.

I think all politicians need to make a better case to young people about why they should vote and how issues will affect them. Also we need to improve politics education in schools. Its currently virtually non existent unless you choose to study it, and students are less likely to opt to study a subject when they don't know what it involves.

Voter apathy amongst young people is high because they leave school not knowing or understanding enough about politics to vote. Learning about how your country is governed should be compulsory, as should voting, it's essential for democracy
